barcelona-based practice sanzpont [arquitectura] has submitted their proposal for the 'busan opera house' international
competition for busan, south korea. the form is derived from the balance of opposites referred to as the 'um-yang' within
the culture of the local inhabitants. interpreting the ancient philosophy within a cutting edge external appearance establishes
a connection between the past and present while signifying its long life into the future. integrating natural and urban areas
throughout the building's diverse public spaces shows respect for the environment while promoting sustainability.
exterior
multicolored LED lights glow through the skin's double layers of translucent EFTE while filtering daylight entering
the interior. the facade's integrated photovoltaic solar panels capture and generate clean energy. the extensive green roof
regulates temperature to reduce heat island effect while also insulating the interior from heat loss. harvested rainwater
contributes to bathroom facilities and is stored for irrigation of the surrounding landscape. visitors access the museum
from an elevated pedestrian walkway with opportunities for panoramic vistas that lead to four plazas symbolizing the
elements of fire, earth, water and metal.
